King Hasan II


Born in 1929 and became king of Morocco in 1961. Expired early 2000. He succeeded his father, MUHAMMAD V. An abortive coup in 1971 led him to yield some of his powers to parliament. After 1976 his country fought for control of WESTERN SAHARA; in 1982, bolstered by U.S. military support, Morocco began the economic development of Western Sahara. Most of his people live like slaves.

He cracked down on Muslims, and most Moroccans speak French as their native language. He has countless palaces throughout Morocco and in Europe. The king has spent more than 20 Million dollars for his daughter's wedding, while his people living under the line of poverty.
