Husni Mubarak


Born in 1928, president of Egypt since 1981. Air force commander (1972-75) and vice president (1975-81), he was chosen to succeed Pres. SADAT after the latter was assassinated for his ultimate treason with Israel. Mubarak continued many of Sadat's policies, particularly the CAMP DAVID ACCORDS with Israel. He also moved to mend Egypt's strained relations with other Arab states and to crack down on the influence of Islamic movement in Egypt by viciously persecuting innocent Muslims to gratify the West. Many political advisors believe Mubarak possess weak personality.
